Castle in Time Orchestra
The piece was created as a collaboration between master Trilok Gurtu and Castle in Time Orchestra. The piece researches different time forms, prehistory in music, and the relationship between a soloist as an individual and the rest of the tribe. It translates Indian compositions (Kaida) that were written for the human voice and the Tabla percussion instrument, into orchestral instruments. It contains complex polyrhythmic sequences, electro-acoustic textures, and “Soundpainting” sign language as a way to communicate, and create in the live event.
The piece was supported by the Mekudeshet Festival, Beit Avi Chai, and the Ministry of Culture.
Castle in Time Orchestra is an independent orchestra that was formed by the need to hear and create for a large ensemble that contains acoustic and electronic instruments and perform original music. The incredible musicians, who are also close friends and family, are an integral part of the creation processes, generating an inseparable organism between the composition and the performers. Its repertoire is a hybrid between traditional notation and live composition sign languages. The orchestra has been broadcasted on main radio stations and performed in numerous festivals in Israel and abroad.
