Dias de Flamenco Festival – Espacio Potencial

'Espacio Potencial' (Potential Space) is flamenco work by choreographer and dancer Adva Yermiyahu – a Spanish-Israeli collaboration for 10 artists. ‘Potential Space’ is a term coined by psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott, which refers to the liminal space that lies between reality and fantasy without having to choose between them. At the center of Espacio Potencial lies the basic elements of flamenco – song, guitar and dance – and a 7-meter-long pink traditional bata de cola dress. The encounter between the tradition of flamenco and influences from contemporary dance, installation and visual theater, transform the show into a 'potential space', that realizes a dialogue between contrasts – static and dynamic, intimate and public, tension and relaxation, individual and group, art and life. Original music by Cazas was composed for the work, and it expresses the traditional musical frame and song forms of flamenco, while simultaneously extracting them from their recognized context and rhythms. Espacio Potencial connects traditional and contemporary flamenco, dance and music, Spain and Israel, creating an innovative and surprising scenic world.
