Nadav Barnea | The Dreamers
*The show includes strong light moments
In a performance for plasma screens and lighting fixtures, multidisciplinary artist and lighting designer Nadav Barnea uses the audio-video technique he invented to explore human desires, hopes, disillusionment, and disappointment. This theatrical-dramatic biographical journey through time features the voices of five characters: an Israeli girl of Filipino descent facing deportation, a former soldier with PTSD, an actress, a bereaved Palestinian mother, and an elderly man at the winter of his life. Combining documentary film, theater, and lighting installation, Barnea concocts a new stage language and a fascinating viewing experience. The vivid moments unfolding before us create a world almost devoid of human presence, yet simultaneously and wonderfully human.
Nadav Barnea is a multidisciplinary artist, lighting designer, musician, and theater creator. As a lighting designer he has worked with prominent theater directors, choreographers, and musicians in independent frameworks and within the top theaters and art institutions in Israel, and has established himself as a leading light designer. As a musician and sound designer, has written soundtracks for dance and theater pieces as well as for television and films. In 2017 he was the sound advisor for Ohad Naharin’s work Venezuela created for the Batsheva Dance Company. As a singer-songwriter, he published his debut album in 2014, receiving great reviews and extensive radio play. Recently, Nadav started creating light and sound installations that have been presented in multidisciplinary group exhibitions in Aza13 in Jaffa. His first theatrical-installation, Pa’am, was presented in 2016 in the Acre Theater Festival.
